Emerging Arts Leaders: Philadelphia’s Creative Conversation is our flagship event, a dynamic mini-symposium held in October in chorus with emerging arts leaders networks throughout the country as encouraged by Americans for the Arts. Our seventh annual Creative Conversation will feature engaging keynote and breakout presentations, as well as opportunities for attendees to share their thoughts.

Our keynote speaker, Stanford Thompson, is a musician and educator who serves as the Founder and Executive Director of Play On Philly, bringing music education to students in underserved areas throughout Philadelphia. Recognized as a TED Fellow, Stanford believes that music education is a powerful tool for positive personal and community change.

Visit his site www.StanfordThompson.com to learn more.

What’s next in the arts? Solve Philadelphia’s most compelling problems, create healthier dialogue in our society, and foster mutual understanding and respect throughout our communities. Using the story of Play On Philly’s impact, Stanford will challenge conventional thinking, action and impact throughout the arts sector and encourage our artists and arts leaders to take the path less traveled.

Breakout Sessions

Using Technology to Break Barriers (Jacqueline Goldfinger)

While technological communication will never eclipse one-on-one interaction, there are many new ways in which technology can be used to further arts and education. What are the ways that we can maximize the use of technology in Philadelphia’s arts and education sectors?

Combating Burnout: Assess, Address, Recover (Liz Green)

This working session will provide psychoeducation for nonprofit professionals to distinguish between and recognize the symptoms of burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. It will provide professionals with tools to evaluate their workplace culture as it relates to the mental health of its employees through assessment tools, group exercises, and low impact programs that can be implemented in the workplace.

Art Economic Empowerment (Shekhinah B.)

This session will focus on the promotion and implementation of entrepreneurship, technology and workforce development skills within the art sector, using creative activities and art production that generate profits for artists within the economy.
